Haunted Tales of Fairmont Hotel Vancouver

An iconic landmark in the heart of the city, the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver is not only known for its stunning architecture and luxury accommodations, but also for its rich history and eerie tales. Originally built as a railway hotel, the hotel was designed to cater to travelers arriving by train. Its opulent design features elegant ballrooms, elaborate garments and stunning chandeliers, all contributing to an atmosphere of grandeur. With roots dating back to 1939, this grand hotel has played host to dignitaries, celebrities and countless events, some of which have left behind ghostly legends and whispers of the supernatural that continue to intrigue visitors.

The Lady in Red

One of the most well-known residents of the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver is the ‘Lady in Red’. In the summer of 1944, Jennie Pearl Cox, a socialite who regularly attended tea dances and luxurious events at Hotel Vancouver, was killed in a tragic car accident after colliding with a truck at the intersection. Since then, there have been numerous sightings from staff and guests of a lady in a red dress that seemingly disappears in front of them, passing through walls and closed elevator doors.

The Elevator Occurence

The hotel’s elevators have also gained a reputation for the supernatural. Guests have experienced odd occurrences, such as the elevators stopping on floors without anyone pressing the buttons or doors opening unexpectedly when no one is waiting.

Mysterious Noises

Guests have reported strange noises during their stays – unexplained footsteps in the hallways, doors creaking open, and even soft whispers when no one else is around.

Despite its haunted reputation, the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver embraces its history, including the ghostly tales that have emerged over the years. Paying homage to the infamous Lady in Red, the hotel will be opening ‘The Scarlett’, a speakeasy pop-up that will immerse guests in the stories of the captivating characters of the hotel’s history. For one night only, Castle Confidential is an interactive mystery experience set on the iconic 14th floor where guests can interact with characters, find clues, complete actions and challenges to solve a mystery as a story unfolds. For those looking to spend a night (or a potential ghost encounter), the hotel’s heritage suites promises an experience that transcends the ordinary.
