Make the Most of Summer in Vancouver
As the days get longer and the temperature rises, Vancouver transforms into a playground of summer delights. From stunning beaches and local watering holes to thrilling adventures and outdoor festivals, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Whether you’re a local or a first-time visitor, here’s the ultimate guide to make the most of summer in the city.
Beach Bliss
Vancouver is blessed with beautiful beaches perfect for soaking up the sun or taking a refreshing dip in the ocean. Visit Kitsilano Beach for a dose of liveliness and join in for a game of beach volleyball. For ocean enthusiasts who want to get out on the water, head down to Jericho Beach where you can find a mix of ocean tide, flat water and wind speeds ranging from two to twenty knots – perfect conditions for windsurfing and kiteboarding. Those looking for relaxation can visit English Bay for its iconic views of the sunset, or Third Beach in Stanley Park, where you can find secluded spots surrounded by lush forest and views of the Pacific.
Outdoor Adventures
There’s no shortage of activities for those who are seeking adventure. Hike or bike through the scenic trails in Stanley Park or head up to Grouse Mountain for activities like zip-lining, mountain biking, and the famous Grouse Grind – a 3 km vertical climb with rewarding views. Head to Capilano Suspension Bridge for a fun-filled day of forest fun and heart-racing views. On the water, you can find paddleboard and kayak rentals as well as zodiac tours and sea safaris where you can expect to see incredible views of the Lions Gate Bridge, picturesque waterfalls, seal colonies and bald eagles in their natural habitat.
Festivals and Events
There are plenty of festivals during the summer covering a wide range of tastes. On for its 35th year, Bard on the Beach, Western Canada’s largest Shakespeare Festival, will be putting on plays, dramas and special events until September. The Honda Celebration of Light is the longest running offshore fireworks competition in the world and will take place on July 20, 24 and 27. Dozens of countries have been hosted over the years to put on a spectacular firework display, with Portugal, Malaysia and the United Kingdom competing for this year’s title. In August, Vancouver will see its biggest Pride season the city has ever seen. Favourite events like VanPrideFest and the Vancouver Pride Parade will be in full swing, along with a brand new Queer Rights Summit and other exciting additions to the program. To make the most of the long summer days, keep an eye out for car-free days over on Main Street and Commercial Drive, where busy streets are transformed into vibrant spaces, bringing artists, performers and local businesses together for a day of entertainment. For food lovers, check out the Shipyards Night Market and the Richmond Night Market for endless food stalls and trucks, live music and plenty of vendors selling local and imported goods.

For the ultimate summer vacation, spend a night (or a few) at the centrally located Fairmont Hotel Vancouver and take advantage of this year’s endless summer memories offer. Also available throughout the summer, guests can experience ‘Into the Forest with Emily Carr’, an immersive afternoon tea inspired by the legacy of the iconic Canadian artist, and ‘Tea in the Window’, an exclusive table for two giving guests the opportunity to see the charm of the city from a different perspective. To help beat the heat, catch the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver’s distinctive teal Treat-Cycle street side, offering frozen treats every Friday.
