The Promise of Spring

One of the most special (and beautiful) times of the year in Vancouver, Cherry Blossom Season is a time to enjoy the promise of brighter days and warmer weather ahead. Be sure to soak in the cheerful white and pink blooms on every corner of the city, then head to Fairmont Hotel Vancouver for a delightful array of events and activities to maximize every moment.

40,000 Cherry Trees

Did you know that Vancouver’s original 500 cherry trees were a gift from the mayors of Kobe and Yokohama in the 1930s as a thank you to the city for honouring Japanese Canadians who served in WWI? Since then, tens of thousands of cherry trees have been planted throughout the city, and for a limited time each year, their blossoms now grace the streets of entire neighbourhoods in canopies of pink blossoms. The trees symbolize the Shinto ideals of impermanence, hope and renewal.
